Frequently asked questions

How many floats does my dock need?

It depends on square footage and how you use the dock. Work it in this order:

  1. Multiply length by width for total square footage
  2. Multiply by 30 lbs per sq ft for residential, or 40 lbs for marina and commercial
  3. Divide that total by the supporting weight of the float you want to use
  4. Round up to the next whole drum

Supporting weight is listed on every product page.

Can floats be installed on an existing dock frame?

Yes. Both mounting styles are designed for retrofits. Standard drums bolt through molded-in slots to steel channel, steel truss or wood framing. Muscle Flange™ drums lag straight through the perimeter flange, which gives you more room to work around existing cross members.

Before you order, check that your frame is sound and that the new drums match your bolt pattern and spacing. If you are replacing failed floats, this is a good moment to confirm the frame is not carrying more load than it was built for. Send us photos and dimensions and we will tell you what fits.

What is the warranty, and what does it cover?

Every Eagle float drum carries a 15-year pro-rated warranty to the original owner from the date of purchase. Coverage is for defects in the drum itself. If a drum is determined to be defective, replacement value is pro-rated by age against the published schedule. The owner is responsible for returning the drum prepaid to Hendren Plastics, Gravette, AR.

Normal seasonal removal and reinstallation does not affect coverage. Damage from dragging, impact, improper fastening or loads beyond the rated supporting weight is not a defect and is not covered. Store drums off the ground and out of direct contact with sharp debris during the off season and they will outlast the schedule.
